So it’s no absurd amount of miles, but 500 is where I start getting a little more comfortable on the bike, figure out how it rides, how it handles, any quirks, etc. The main thing on an FZ-10 is the range, I’ve filled up FOUR times. Granted I’m at about 550 or so right now, but even still, I’d have filled up maybe, MAYBE three times on the ninja and I 100% would have been riding it harder. But I mean.... well look at it!
I either need to deep scrub the tires or get new ones, I think these are original to the bike and have been on since ‘17. The gray/orange bike is another guy from work, and its the MT-09
Initial impression is holy cow this seat sucks, if you have an MT series bike (Or the XSR twins), get the Yamaha
comfort seat. I got mine Sunday and have about 100 miles on it, 110% worth it. I did get mine used but still,
it’s worth the investment. The fun part was riding through traffic with this sticking out of my backpack:
zip ties and twine held this in quite nicely
I’m pretty sure the stock seat made my back sore with only wind resistance and its own weight pressing against me.
The biggest surprise so far is how damn nimble this thing is, I thought for sure I’d be scraping the pegs off within a month when I bought it, now I’m not so sure. It takes some commitment to lean it over far enough to scrape the pegs, and I don’t know if I can commit that hard to a turn on public roads
My favorite part so far is 100% the noise, I’ve described it to other MT-10 owners as “A bear gargling another bear” and its been accepted as true once they’ve heard it. My roommate says its the best parts of a 2-stroke dirt bike and a Harley Davidson put together, can’t argue with that description either. I’m taking my drone out to film some rolling shots and general hoon shit with another 10 owner coming up, I might get some juicy gargily exhaust burbles for y’all then. Until now just imagine that noise, it’s great. It’s also LOUD. Coming from a full race catless Akro to a simple decat with the stock muffler on this, it’s easily twice as loud. It gives the bike a road presence I haven’t gotten with other bikes, people actually notice me. It’s nice.
My biggest let down (Other than the fuel mileage, I knew about that coming into this game) is the lack of storage. Literally, on a 2017 sport naked, there is not one place you can store a set of glasses, the registration, a phone, nothing. I don’t care for saddlebags , hate tail bags, and am at a gas station too often for a tank bag. Something is going to give, but I’m giving it time to figure out what exactly is gonna happen.
In contrast to that epic disappointment, I finally got my quad lock mount!
Final position to be determined, this just looks like it’ll work.
For all you two-wheel oppo’s out there (God bless you beautiful degenerates), if you’re looking for a phone mount, this is it. Ram mounts are alright, but I’ve lost a phone off of one, and never cared for how they get mounted. These are incredible. I can set my phone on it, rotate to lock, and pull up on the phone until my suspension begins decompressing without the phone or mount budging even a mm. I 100% believe you could snap the phone in half before this mount gives. That being said, there is a downside, I’ve heard some iPhones get their cameras rattled loose by these mounts since they are so stable. The handlebar mount has a rubber bit that isolates shock somewhat, but the stem mounts (My roommate runs that style) are pretty much a solid mount. Also, the stem mounts use a metal compression fit over the RAM mounts aggravating rubber compression mount that never stays in place. You also HAVE to use the quad lock case, but it’s a decent case that some wireless chargers can still charge through, my car charger mount won’t , but my desk charger will, not sure what’s up with that but it’s worth it.
Any questions on MT/FZ 10's feel free to ask.

That is a really dumb feature that needs to die a fiery death. I don’t like it.

So I was shopping the super naked and came down between the MT07 and 09. When I went to get an insurance quote the MT07 was 5x more than the MT09. Same year. Same coverage. Even used VIN numbers for quote, and confirmed via phone call with a rep.
Do you have any input on this?

Actually yes.
1. CALL allstate, not online quote or anything. Always seems to be the cheapest for me.
2. Insurance is decided by both your history and the statistics of accidents with that particular bike. Meaning cheaper bikes get hit harder cause they are more popular and therefore more accidents/thefts. I’m looking at my FB groups right now and one just got stolen last night.
3. check a used 10. I was cross shopping a new XSR900 (Retro MT-09 with the better suspension) and a used FZ/MT-10. Insurance is $30 more a month for arguably one of the most absurd bikes in it’s market segment. Not even kidding literally on the way to work this morning I accidently popped a wheelie in STD mode with TC set to 3, the literal least aggressive settings the bike has. I pulled TC down a few notches after that cause id rather ride the fucking lightning that let TC bring me down, but its still just a riot of a motorcycle.
